A Cheekwood Proposal | Jim & Lucy | Nashville Engagement Photographer

I'm jumping up and down with excitement to share these photos today! Never had I ever thought I'd get to photograph the most perfect holiday proposal at the very beginning of the new year. It was just a couple days after Christmas that I got an email from Jim that kinda left me grinning ear to ear, because I have always wanted to photograph a proposal.

I had never met this adorable couple until the night the proposal happened!! I was staked out across the sidewalk from this courtyard, and each time a couple walked by my heart started beating super fast in anticipation.

It wasn't long before I saw a pretty young couple walking up the hill, and I knew it was Jim and Lucy -- I could tell by the way they had their arms wrapped around each other and the way they were talking and laughing as they made their way over to the surprise spot. I followed behind, glancing over at them, trying to signal Jim I was there and in place, but also trying for Lucy to not see me, the girl with the camera hiding over in the bushes.

Jim glanced over at me and I smiled REALLY big, hoping that would signal that, "Hey, I'm Erin, your photographer!" It worked, and they stood there under the beautiful Christmas lights, and then Jim got down on one knee. I think I started crying at that point. There were people walking behind me "Ooooing and ahhhing," and asking what was going on, but I was so focused on getting the best pictures in such low light that I didn't say a word.

Lucy had the best reaction to Jim pulling out the ring -- it's gorgeous!! They hugged and hugged and hugged, and I just kept shooting away with happy tears in my eyes and a big ole smile on my face. Eventually, they glanced over at me and I walked over to congratulate them.

I didn't even know this sweet couple but they greeted me with hugs and we just happily laughed and talked. It was seriously so much fun! We finished up with a few pictures to document all the feelings. I had Jim spin Lucy around for a few and we did a few with the ring of course!

Meeting Jim and Lucy and capturing such a special moment for them was by far the best way to start 2016. I am thankful for these two, and many others, for letting me capture their love stories.
